The NHL (National Hockey League) All-Star team is an award that honours the best professional ice hockey players in their respective positions after the regular season every year. The players for this team are selected by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) representatives based on their performances throughout the regular season.
First started after the 1930/31 NHL season, the NHL All-Star Teams are divided into a First Team and a Second Team. Each team has had either six or seven members after the regular season throughout the years. Notably, the career leader in selections for the All-Star team is Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings with 21 selections, which included 12 times as a member of the first team and nine times as a member of the second team. Likewise, John LeClair is the career leader in not being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame but being selected in 5 All-Star teams, including two times as a member of the first team and three times as a member of the Second Team. With the 2023/24 NHL season ongoing, a new All-Star First Team and Second Team will be created based on the players’ performance.
2023 NHL All-Star Teams
The First and Second teams for the 2023 NHL All-Star games were chosen by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association after the completion of the 2022/23 season. These teams were created based on the performances of the players in the season. Both the First team and the Second Team had six players in it. These are the players of the 2023 NHL All-Star First Team.
