Boston Bruins center Gregory Campbell will miss the rest of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs with a broken right leg, the team said Thursday.
Campbell was hurt in the second period of Boston’s 2-1 double-overtime victory over Pittsburgh in game three of the Eastern Conference finals when he slid to block a slap shot from Penguins star Evgeni Malkin during a power play.
He limped through the remainder of his shift before heading to the locker room and didn’t rejoin the contest, and was later found to have a broken fibula.
In 15 games this postseason, Campbell posted three goals and four assists. He has also been a key component on Boston’s penalty kill.
The Bruins hold a commanding 3-0 lead over Pittsburgh in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals. The winner of the series will face either the Chicago Blackhawks or reigning champion Los Angeles Kings for the National Hockey League crown.
