
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is an annual sports award in the National Hockey League (NHL) presented to the player who best showcases leadership qualities both on and off the ice while making significant humanitarian contributions to their community. The recipient is selected by a special panel comprising representatives from the Professional Hockey Writers' Association and the NHL Broadcasters' Association.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner receives a $25,000 donation from the NHL Foundation to benefit a charity or charities of the player's choice. The runners-up receive a donation of $5,000 to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.
King Clancy Memorial Trophy Winner List
Named in honor of Francis M. "King" Clancy, a distinguished figure in hockey history as a player for the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs, followed by roles as a coach, referee, and team executive. The trophy was generously presented to the NHL by Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard in 1988. The trophy acknowledges exceptional community service, succeeding the Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award which was retired in 1984.
The inaugural winner, Lanny McDonald of the Calgary Flames in the 1987–88 season, set the stage with his support for numerous charities in Toronto and Calgary.
