Predicting which NHL teams will be the biggest sellers at the trade deadline in 2023 is difficult because it depends on several factors, such as injuries, team performance, and pending free agents.

Based on current trends, here are five NHL teams that could be the biggest trade deadline sellers in 2023:

#1 - Vancouver Canucks

Bo Horvat was only the first piece to fall for the Canucks. There’s a ton of movable pieces all over the Canucks roster, and it’s a shame that the Canucks weren’t able to put it all together under the current administration.

Elias Pettersson might be too good for the Canucks to give away this season, but he will be a topic of interest for teams around the league. JT Miller’s contract might be too large for some teams to touch. Brock Boeser and Thatcher Demko might be the low-hanging fruit that NHL teams will nab up.

#2 - Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks won’t be trading Jonathan Toews this season, but literally everyone else is on the table. The Blackhawks have only three players on their entire roster that have contracts beyond next season. One of those is Jake McCabe, who will be a sought-after defenseman for teams across the NHL.

Patrick Kane is the big fish, but there’s also Max Domi, Andreas Athanasieou, Colin Blackwell, Jack Johnson and even Petr Mrazek for teams desperate for a netminder at the NHL Trade Deadline.

#3 - San Jose Sharks

The Sharks are at a crossroads. Their team has a core that is talented enough for the foreseeable future that they don’t have to trade them. The bad news is that Timo Meier’s contract is expiring at the end of the NHL season, and it doesn’t sound like he’s interested in staying in San Jose long term.

Erik Karlsson, who the Sharks sold the farm for just three years ago, will also be on the block and the Sharks will demand a king's ransom for him. Tomas Hertl is another name you might hear, but it looks like he could be stuck in San Jose long term.

#4- Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers are in the perfect position to sell, but there’s two major roadblocks. First, the current administration under Chuck Fletcher has shown a propensity to buy and reload rather than sell off. The second roadblock is that it remains to be seen if anyone actually wants to trade for any of their players.

Kevin Hayes, Rasmus Ristoleinen, James Van Reimsdyk, and Travis Sanheim are all on massively rich NHL contracts for the skills they bring to the ice, and it would be a surprise if any of them got dealt with. Van Reimsdyk might be the one to move, as his deal at least ends this season.

#5 - St. Louis Blues

Tarasenko and O’Reilly are both gone, but the Blues aren’t done making moves. The biggest name to see come out of the City of Arches will be Jordan Binnington. In an NHL where everyone will be looking to make an upgrade in net, Binnington might garner more interest than was once expected.

The rest of the names are all smaller pieces. Ivan Barbashev, Sammy Blais, and Marco Scandella could all be on the move to contenders.
