Matt Dumba could be on the move. With recent struggles from the Minnesota Wild, and Dumba’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Bill Guerin may be looking to send out his offense-first defensemen to a better contender.
Dumba hasn’t performed due to expectations this year. If the WIld don’t intend on re-signing Dumba, a trade may be their best option to maximize their assets if they don’t think they have a chance to make a cup run
These five teams could trade for Matt Dumba before the NHL Trade Deadline:
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche haven’t been one of the best teams in the NHL this season, and some blue line help that is also a participant in the offensive game could put them right back on track. Dumba is a talented defenseman who could fit in well with the Avalanche's style of play.
Knowing Bill Geurin, the Wild would be hesitant to trade Dumba to the fellow Central Division Avalanche unless the package coming back was significant.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs have been one of the best teams in the NHL this season, but they have struggled on defense. Dumba would be an excellent addition to their blue line, and he would add some much-needed depth to their defense corps.
Matt Dumba could also give the Leafs some much-needed help on the offensive side of their game from their defensemen. He would also be right at home, playing for his childhood favorite NHL team. The Maple Leafs have some good prospects and young players that could be appealing to Minnesota in a potential trade.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins are the best team in the league and are looking to add one more key defender before the deadline clock hits zero. They have a talented group of forwards, but they need more depth on the blue line to make a deep playoff run.
Matt Dumba would be an excellent addition to their defense corps, and his offensive ability would be a significant upgrade for the team.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have been one of the most exciting teams in the NHL this season, thanks in large part to their dynamic forward group. However, they still lack their offensive focused defender that they’ve been searching for for years.
Matt Dumba could fix that issue. His offensive ability would fit in well with the Oilers' high-powered offense. The Oilers don't have much in return that the Wild would be directly interested in, and would probably have to trade a substantial package.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils are a team that has overachieved this season despite being one of the youngest teams in the league. Time to take advantage of the opportunity.
The Devils could use some help on defense, and Matt Dumba would be a significant upgrade to their blue line. As far as the return, low rankings have blessed the Devils with a stockpile of picks and prospects available to trade.
