The Edmonton Oilers fell short last season, losing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the Florida Panthers. In the 2024-25 NHL season, the Oilers are once again one of the best teams in the NHL.
With Christmas nearly here, Oilers fans have some clear wishes for Santa to help their team going forward.
Oilers Christmas Wishlist
#1. Stanley Cup
Edmonton almost tasted Stanley Cup glory last year, losing in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers. The Oilers are one of the top teams in the NHL, and their fans pray that this is the year they can win it all.
Florida lost in the Cup final and then won it next year, so Oilers fans hope that trend continues for their team. As long as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl remain healthy, Edmonton has a legitimate chance of winning the Stanley Cup in June.
It would be the Oilers' first Stanley Cup since 1990.
#2. Connor McDavid extension
Connor McDavid is the best player in the NHL, and he will be able to sign an extension on July 1, 2025.
Although it is months from now, the future of McDavid will be the biggest storyline in the NHL. The Oilers locked in Draisaitl this past summer, so the biggest wish that is Edmonton can lock in the best player in the NHL long-term.
McDavid will likely sign a massive eight-year deal that will make him the highest-paid player in NHL history if he does extend.
#3. Solid goaltending
The biggest issue with Edmonton's chances of winning a Stanley Cup is goaltending.
Stuart Skinner is the Oilers' starting goalie, but he has been up-and-down and inconsistent. If Edmonton is going to win the Cup, Skinner will need to steal some games, which makes goaltending so crucial.
Whether or not the Oilers make a trade for a goalie or just put their faith in Skinner, their fans will be wishing for good goaltending.
