Alex Ovechkin, captain of The Washington Capitals, is on fire yet again this season. The team is in second place in the Metropolitan Division, two points being the Islanders at 64 points. A big point scorer on that team is none other than the skipper himself.
As we are into the second half of the regular season, Ovechkin is at the top of his game with the most goals scored and points tallied on the team, 37 and 58 respectively. His average time on ice has increased this season.
He is right over 21 minutes, which is up there with his defensemen teammates Carlson, Niskanen, and Orlov.
The Washington Capitals seem to rack up the power play opportunities time and time again. Of course coach Reirden wants his best guys out on the ice for that power play chance. You will see Ovechkin out there for pretty much every power play, with his teammates setting him up for that sweet one-timer that fans can't get enough of it.
He doesn't take the game or the sport lightly. Every season he's stacking up point upon point and a new title after another. Not only did he lead his team to win the Stanley Cup in 2018 (which was a first in franchise history), he won the Conn Smythe trophy for MVP of the playoffs.
He even has another box to check off on his list. He recently passed former teammate of his, Sergei Fedorov, as the top-scoring Russian player in the NHL.
He picked up that 1,180th point on Oshie's goal in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He has only played 193 games fewer than Fedorov but I can almost bet that he will pass that number too.
Ovechkin has so much under his belt and it does not look like he is stopping anytime soon. The Washington Capital's captain is pushing more than ever for this playoff season that's upon us.
After coming off that high last season, and how much he has accomplished thus far, he will definitely be pushing extra hard for another taste at that ultimate victory trophy.
Alex Ovechkin is by far the G.O.A.T of this NHL group of players. Looking at his record, stats, dominance with what star athlete he is on the ice every game, it goes without saying. We tip our hats off to you Alex Ovechkin.
