NEW YORK (AFP) –

Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins looks to pass as Evgeni Nabokov of the New York Islanders defends his goal during the third period in Game Six of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on May 11, 2013 in Uniondale, New York. The Pittsburgh Penguins won 4-3 to move to the second round

Defenseman Brooks Orpik scored 7:49 into overtime to send the Pittsburgh Penguins to the second round of the NHL playoffs with a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

Orpik, who posted his first career playoff goal, fired a long drive from just inside the blue line that beat Islanders’ goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to give the Penguins a 4-2 series victory.

Penguins’ forward Tyler Kennedy set up the winner by passing back to Orpik for a one-timer.

Paul Martin tied the game late in third period for the Penguins, who will square off against the high-flying Ottawa Senators in the quarter-finals of the NHL’s postseason.

Jarome Iginla and Pascal Dupuis also scored to support an impressive 35-save performance from goaltender Tomas Vokoun.

John Tavares, Colin McDonald and Michael Grabner scored for the Islanders, who were aiming to take Pittsburgh to a game seven of series on Sunday.

Nabokov finished with 17 saves in the season-ending loss.
