The Ottawa Charge are a professional ice hockey team based in Ottawa, Ontario. They are one of the founding franchises of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). They play their home games at TD Place Arena. During free agency, they signed Canadian stars Emily Clark, Brianne Jenner, and Emerance Maschmeyer, followed by the selection of Savannah Harmon as their top pick in the September 2023 PWHL Draft.

The Charge debuted on January 2, 2024, against PWHL Montreal, setting an attendance record of 8,318. Hayley Scamurra scored the franchise's first goal, though the game ended in a 3–2 overtime loss. Ottawa achieved its first victory on January 13 against PWHL Toronto and its first home win on January 23. Despite missing the playoffs, the Charge led the league in attendance and earned the second overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft.

The Ottawa Charge's head coach for the 2024 season is Carla MacLeod. A former Canadian national team defender, MacLeod joined the Ottawa Charge in their inaugural PWHL season and is now entering her second year as head coach.

According to Godinos, Carla MacLeod is a former Olympic gold medalist and the head coach of the PWHL Ottawa Charge. Before this role, she held several coaching positions, including head coach of the University of Calgary Dinos women’s hockey team and the Edge School’s U18 Female Prep Team. Her achievements include leading Team Alberta U18 to a gold medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games and coaching Japan's women's team to qualify for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

In addition to her extensive coaching experience, MacLeod's playing career includes two Olympic gold medals (2006 and 2010) and a World Championship MVP award in 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, where she captained the women’s hockey team.

Ottawa Charge General Manager

According to Capital Current, Michael Hirshfeld is the general manager of the Ottawa Charge, a Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team. He took on the role after serving seven years as the executive director of the NHL Coaches’ Association (NHLCA).

Through his role with Ottawa, he has already signed prominent Canadian Olympians, including Brianne Jenner, Emily Clark, and Emerance Maschmeyer. Under his management, the team plays at TD Place, the same arena used by the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s.

Jenner is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2014, 2022), a three-time World Champion, and was named MVP in the 2022 and 2023 World Championship gold medal games. She also holds the record for most goals scored in a single Olympic tournament (2022).

Jenner has been an influential figure in women's hockey, serving as a founding board member of the PWHL Players’ Association (PWHLPA) and among the first players signed to the Ottawa franchise.

Off the ice, she holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University, where she excelled academically and athletically. She previously captained the Calgary Inferno in the CWHL and has been involved in player and coach development.
