Patrick Kane is an American professional ice hockey right winger currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL). Initially selected by the Chicago Blackhawks as the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Level Draft, Kane remained with the Blackhawks until February 2023, when he was traded to the New York Rangers.

Throughout his career, Kane has garnered many accolades to his name, including nine NHL All-Star Game selections and three Stanley Cup Championships till date. Moreover, he led all the NHL players in scoring during the 2010s and was later named as one of the 100 greatest NHL players to have ever graced the competition. Kane is also the youngest American player to reach 1,000 points in the NHL and ranks second behind Mike Modano in most career points by an American-born player.

His most recent absence from the Red Wings lineup occurred on March 28, 2024, due to illness. Prior to that, on January 14, 2024, it was reported that Kane sustained a lower-body injury while playing for the Red Wings, with him missing seven games.

Prior to his time with the Red Wings, Kane had faced injury challenges during his time with the New York Rangers and the Chicago Blackhawks. He was ruled out due to undisclosed reasons on May 12, 2023 and prior to that had suffered a hip injury that season which required surgery. Moreover, he was twice unavailable for selection due to Lower-Body injuries ( on May 4, 2023 and March 1, 2023). Notably, he was placed on Roster Management Reasons on February 25, 2023, just before his trade to the New York Rangers, which sparked controversies regarding trade to the Detroit Red Wings.
