Paul Maurice is a Canadian ice hockey coach in the National Hockey League (NHL). He began his head coaching journey with the Hartford Whalers during the 1995-96 season and continued with the team after it became the Carolina Hurricanes, coaching them until 2003-04 and again from 2008-09 to 2011-12. Notably, he led the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002 and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2009.

Maurice also served as head coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2006-07 to 2007-08. From the 2013-14 season until 2021-22, he coached the Winnipeg Jets, leading them to the Western Conference Final in 2018 and setting franchise records for most games coached (600) and most wins (315). He also became the youngest coach to reach 1,000 and 1,500 NHL games and the second-youngest to achieve 500 wins. Moreover, Maurice is one of three coaches earning at least 300 wins with two franchises. Furthermore, he joined his present team, the Florida Panthers as head coach on June 22, 2022. His impact was felt immediately as he led them to the Prince of Wales Trophy and secured the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Final win (Game 3) in his first season in charge.

Remarkably, Maurice had a playing career before becoming a coach. He played four seasons with the Windsor Compuware Spitfires (presently the Windsor Spitfires) in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), before being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 12th round of the 1985 NHL Draft. However, he never made it past the OHL as an eye injury halted his progress.
