On Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers will face off with the Seattle Kraken in a preseason game at home. It will be the fifth preseason game for an Oilers team that has gone just 1-3 so far, dropping two games to the Calgary Flames and a Wednesday game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Saturday's game will mark the start of the second half of the preseason for Edmonton, with two games against the Canucks and one more against the Kraken to follow this coming week.
Ahead of Saturday's game in Edmonton, the team is expected to roll with the same lines that coach Kris Knoblauch used during the morning skate. With the team looking to trim down their roster before opening night, we'll see a number of line combinations.
On Friday, Knoblauch said the team would likely use two of their lines and then use two lines comprised of players who are trying to make the final roster. Given that, expect to see the following lines in Saturday's game:
Forwards
- L1: Nugent-Hopkins - McDavid - Hyman
- L2: Podkolzin - O'Reilly - Perry
- L3: Lavoie - Ryan - Hoffman
- L4: Pederson - Philp - Savoie
Defense
- L1: Ekholm - Bouchard
- L2: Dermott - Stecher
- L3: Gleason - Kemp
Goalies
- Pickard
- Rodrigue
Looking at the 2024-25 preseason for the Edmonton Oilers, and the regular-season schedule ahead
Last year, the Edmonton Oilers finished the regular season with the second-best record in the Pacific Division (49-27-6). In the playoffs, the team picked up a dominant win over the LA Kings in the first round over five games before beating the Vancouver Canucks in a closely contested seven-game series.
After a 4-2 series win over the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals, the Oilers faced off with the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost a hard-fought seven-game series.
Heading into the 2024-25 season, the Oilers are the betting favorites to win it all, given the Panthers' roster overhaul this summer.
After picking up a win in their preseason opener against the Winnipeg Jets, the team has since lost three straight, losing back-to-back games to the Flames before then losing a rematch to the Jets.
Following tonight's game, the team will play the Canucks on Sept. 30, followed by a rematch with the Kraken on Oct. 2, leading up to an Oct. 4 meeting with the Canucks in Edmonton's final preseason game.
The team will then play their season opener against the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 9 at home, where they will look to start the season off strong in hopes of returning to the Stanley Cup finals.
