The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. Ahead of the Penguins' fifth game of the season, here is what their projected lineup is expected to look like.
Predicted Penguins lineup
Forwards
- Anthony Beauvillier - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
- Michael Bunting - Evgeni Malkin - Rickard Rakell
- Drew O'Connor - Lars Eller - Jesse Puljujarvi
- Kevin Hayes - Cody Glass - Noel Acciari
The Penguins are off to a 2-2 start and are averaging 3.5 goals per game, as their 14 goals rank eighth in the NHL to begin the season.
Defenseman
- Matt Grzelcyk - Kris Letang
- Marcus Pettersson - Erik Karlsson
- Ryan Shea - Ryan Graves
The Penguins' defense is led by Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson who are two of the best offensive defensemen in the NHL.
Goalies
- Tristan Jarry
- Joel Blomqvist
Jarry is the projected starter and has had mixed results to begin the season, but Penguins coach Mike Sullivan was pleased with his game against Montreal.
“I thought he got better as the game went on, for sure. I thought he made some big saves down the stretch," Sullivan said, via the team website. "They pushed again, they pulled the goalie there at the end. We got hemmed in, and he made a couple of big saves there. He made a couple of quiet, difficult saves that maybe didn't look difficult to the casual fan.
"When Jars is at his best, he tends to make those look easy, and they're really not. He's positionally sound," Sullivan added. "He sees the play really well, and I think one of his biggest strengths as a goaltender is his ability to read the play and his hockey sense.”
This season, Jarry is 1-1 with a 4.50 GAA and a .866 SV%.
