The Calgary Flames are second in the NHL Eastern Conference table and have been missing their veteran defenseman, Christopher Tanev, who is out until February 6 over an undisclosed injury; he was placed on injured reserve on January 23.
Tanev was injured in a 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was hit in the first period and left the game with an undisclosed injury. He has had plenty of time to recover since the All-Star break, and the team will be looking forward to his services in the game against the New York Rangers on February 6.
Tanev has a goal, seven assists and 85 blocked shots in 40 games in the 2022-23 NHL season with an average time on ice of 19.51.
The Calgary Flames placed Tanev on injured reserve retroactively on January 23, per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
John Marino, New Jersey Devils
John Marino of the New Jersey Devils is out until February 6 with an upper-body injury that he sustained in the 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on December 20, 2022.
Marino has nine points, 42 shots on goal, 43 blocks and 31 hits in 32 games in the 2022-23 NHL season. The 25-year-old has scored three goals and nine points in 32 games this season.
Marino has helped New Jersey surge to second place in the NHL Eastern Conference with a 32-13-4 record.
Marino (upper body) was a full participant in Sunday's practice. As per Sam Kasan of the Devils' official site reports, he could return to the lineup against the Vancouver Canucks on February 6 at 7:30 pm ET.
Jonathan Bernier, New Jersey Devils
Jonathan Bernier, a goalie for the New Jersey Devils, is also out until February 6. He sustained a hip injury in December 2021 in an 8-4 loss against the Winnipeg Jets.
Bernier underwent a season-ending injury in January 2022 which set him out for the rest of the 2021-22 NHL season and was replaced by goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood. He had a 4-4-1 record, a 3.06 GAA, and a .902 SV% that season.
Bernier joined the team for practice in October 2022, per Amanda Stein of the Devils. He is most likely the third option for the team behind Vitek Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood. Vitek Vanecek has a .917 SV% and a 2.29 GAA in 32 games played (29 games started).
