In the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, hockey insider Elliotte Friedman named two coaches likely to lead Team Canada to the Four Nations tournament and the Olympics. There has been a lot of speculation about who will lead the squad.
Friedman hinted that there could be two coaches for Team Canada, one for the Four Nations tournament and another for the Olympics. He even proposed a catchy new name for the tournament, dubbing it the "Four Nations Freeze."
"So the word at the time was that Canada was going to have two coaches, one for the Four Nations tournament or whatever it's called now. Okay, no, I like it better. Well, I'm going with "Foreign Nations Freeze." I like it better.
"Okay, I've renamed this tournament the Four Nations Freeze, and the Olympics, that there could be two different coaches for it. And the two names I was hearing a lot were Brind'Amour and Jon Cooper," Friedman said.
"Now, Jon Cooper is overseas. He's at the World Championships. So it's got some people wondering if there's some conversation about him being one of those coaches, which obviously, being a two-time Stanley Cup champion, he would deserve it. So I think he's still very much in the mix. Brind'Amour was the other name," Friedman added.
Jon Cooper serves as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning and has led the team to two Stanley Cup championships. Meanwhile, Rod Brind'Amour, the head coach for the Carolina Hurricanes, is another name in the mix.
Team Canada beats Switzerland 3-2 at World Hockey Championship
Team Canada maintained their unbeaten streak at the world hockey championship by defeating Switzerland 3-2. Dylan Cozens shone brightly, scoring twice and contributing an assist, while Nick Paul secured the game-winning goal.
Despite Switzerland's good effort, highlighted by goals from Kevin Fiala and Roman Loeffel, they suffered their first loss in the tournament.
"I like the way (Dylan Cozens) has stepped up offensively, but I love the way he has played without the puck. He has really raised his game defensively, he keeps his shifts short and he wins big faceoffs," Andre Tourigny said.
Captain John Tavares acknowledged Switzerland's offensive threat but praised his team's resilience, particularly highlighting their improved power play performance.
"It was a heck of a game. We have a ton of respect for the Swiss and the way they play, and they have been having a great tournament so far," Tavares said
The game gave us a glimpse into Team Canada's utilization of key chances.
