NHL insider Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic believes the Edmonton Oilers have decided on the future of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. The St. Louis Blues offer sheeted Broberg and Holloway and Edmonton has one more day to match the offers.

The Oilers were up against the cap, but Edmonton dealt Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks to clear come cap space. With that, Rutherford believes Edmonton will match the Broberg contract and let Holloway go.

"With Edmonton making two trades Sunday, it appears the Oilers are setting up to match Broberg and not Holloway. I agree with the Broberg speculation, but I don't think matching Holloway is out of the question. They have until 8:30 am CT Tuesday to decide but it could come today," Rutherford said.

St. Louis offered Broberg a two-year offer at $4,580,917 per season, while Holloway was given a two-year deal worth $2,290,457 per season.

Although Edmonton now has cap space to match both offer sheets, Rutherford believes the Oilers will only match the one for Broberg. If Edmonton doesn't match the Holloway offer sheet, the Oilers will receive the Blues' 2025 third-round pick.

Oilers TSN reporter Ryan Rishaug also believes Edmonton will match the offer sheet for Broberg.

However, fellow NHL insider Jason Gregor wasn't sure if Edmonton will match either contract.

Broberg was seelcted eighth overall in the 2019 NHL draft and has skated in 81 NHL games, recording two goals and 11 assists for 13 points. He played in 10 playoff games this past season, recording two goals and one assist for three points.

Holloway, meanwhile, was drafted 14th overall by Edmonton in 2020 and has skated in 89 NHL games recording nine goals and nine assists for 18 points.

Oilers make two trades

Edmonton made two trades on Sunday before its impending decision to match the offer sheets for Broberg and Holloway.

The Oilers acquired forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2025 fourth-round pick. Podkolzin was selected 10th overall in the 2019 NHL draft and has skated in 137 games, recording 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points.

The bigger move was dealing Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson. The move clears Ceci's $3.25 million cap hit.
