NHL Rumors: Insider hints Bruins could part ways with Linus Ullmark, drawing interest from multiple teams

The Boston Bruins and Linus Ullmark may be parting ways this summer. According to The Fourth Period, Ullmark has drawn interest from several clubs, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, and San Jose Sharks.

The Maple Leafs are shopping for a number one goaltender, while teams like the Kings and Oilers are looking to upgrade their current starters.

While the emergence of Jeremy Swayman hasn’t necessarily made Ullmark expendable, the Bruins will be listening to offers from other clubs, The Fourth Period reported.

Linus Ullmark has one more year on his current contract with Boston at a $5 million cap hit. The 30-year-old’s cap hit seems reasonable as he appeared in 40 games this past season, posting a 22-10-0 record with a 2.57 GAA and a .915 SV%.

Ullmark was part of the goalie tandem Jim Montgomery employed, alternating between Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman throughout the regular season. However, Swayman ran away with the starting role in the playoffs, posting a 2.15 GAA and .933 SV% in 12 games.

Adding to that, Swayman is a restricted free agent this offseason. He is likely to get a significant pay bump from his current $3.475 million deal. With that situation in mind, the Bruins may have a hard time keeping Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman together.

Nevertheless, The Fourth Period pointed out that Ullmark wanted to stay in Boston. As such, the Bruins may ultimately trade Ullmark only if they get an offer they can’t refuse.

Linus Ullmark submits 15-team no-trade list

Linus UIllmark has a modified 15-team no-trade list for this upcoming season. He submitted the list following the Bruins’ playoff exit earlier this week.

NBC Boston’s Ty Anderson reported on the matter, quoting Ullmark:

"I asked Ullmark about his no-trade and if he would exercise right this summer. Said the teams that are on his list are on there for a reason, and he doesn’t want to disclose reasons why. Says it’s between himself, his family, and agent."

With 15 teams on Ullmark’s list, Bruins’ GM Don Sweeney doesn’t have much room to maneuver. For instance, The Fourth Period noted that the Bruins were close to moving Ullmark to the Kings earlier this season. However, the Kings were on Ullmark’s no-trade list.

With Ullmark’s no-trade list in mind, the Bruins may struggle to move Ullmark this offseason. In the worst of cases, the Bruins could lose Ullmark via free agency, getting nothing in return. Currently, it seems like the Bruins and Ullmark will stay together for at least one more season.
