As the 2024–25 season approaches, people are already talking about the 2025 Draft. The 2023 NHL Draft in Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, and the 2024 NHL Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas were well received. So, Los Angeles being a top choice for 2025 makes sense, given its connection to the NHL and entertainment.
NHL insider David Pagnotta tweeted:
"We know the NHL Draft will have a different vibe moving forward, as GMs/scouts/etc. won't be attending. But that doesn't mean it won't be a marquee NHL event. Not yet official, but I'm hearing Los Angeles is the frontrunner to host the 2025 NHL Draft & NHL Awards. Venue(s) TBD."
The 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the 63rd edition, will feature players born between January 1, 2005, and September 15, 2007. Undrafted players from North America born in 2004 and unsigned players from the 2023 NHL draft can also be signed.
NHL's 2025 Draft is currently led by forward James Hagens
USHL forward James Hagens is likely to be the top pick for the NHL's 2025 Draft. His strong performance in the U18 World Championship impressed NHL scouts. They see him as a top offensive prospect, similar to the San Jose Sharks' 2024 number-one pick, Macklin Celebrini.
After being one of the final cuts from the 2024 gold-winning team, Hagens is eager to make the roster this year. He led the USA Hockey National Team Development Program with 102 points last season.
Other top prospects for the 2025 Draft include Ivan Ryabkin, Porter Martone, Anton Frondell, Jakob Ihs-Wozniak and Michael Misa.
John Vanbiesbrouck, U.S. National Junior Team general manager, called Hagens a “special talent” and praised his maturity after being cut last year.
“He’s a very special hockey player and has a lot of confidence,” U.S. coach David Carle said.
Hagens, who will play at Boston College next season, will join top players like Gabe Perreault and Ryan Leonard for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships.
