Pittsburg Penguins star captain Sidney Crosby had one of his best NHL regular season runs in 2023-24. He scored 40+ goals for the first time after six seasons. The last time he scored 44 goals was in the 2016-17 NHL season, the year he had won his third Stanley Cup championship.

The Penguins were struggling during the regular season, and eventually, they missed the playoffs by a small margin. They had scored 88 points, but the Washington Capitals qualified for the wild-card entry. Still, captain Crosby surprised everyone by scoring 94 points and 42 goals.

Sidney Crosby will now be 37 this August, and his 12-year contract, which he signed with the Penguins back in 2012, will be entering his finals year. The deal worth $104,400,000 will be ending on July 1 next year after the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Athletic's Rob Rossi recently discussed Cosby's intentions to ink a new deal with the Penguins and continue his career with the franchise.

"Crosby, who turns 37 next month, is intent on being a Penguin for life, despite missing the playoffs in back-to-back years and amid an underwhelming offseason in which Dubas has added little to the roster," Rossi wrote, (via The Athletic).

Considering the way Crosby is playing and his reputation in the NHL, the Penguins will try to negotiate a deal with him. He tied for 11th with 42 goals and 12 in terms of points among all the NHL players.

Rossi further discussed the financial aspects of such a contract, if Crosby and the Penguins agree terms.

"As previously reported, a deal within a range of three years and potentially an average annual value of $10 million was possible. Full details of Crosby’s contract were not shared," Rossi added.

Sidney Crosby meets Canada men's soccer team after quarterfinal win

Sidney Crosby attended Canada Soccer's Copa America quarterfinal win over Venezuela at AT&T Stadium in Texas. Crosby, famous for scoring the "Golden Goal" in the 2010 Olympics, met the team postgame, praised their performance and posed for photos.

Jacob Shaffelburg, the "Maritime Messi," opened the scoring for Canada, with Venezuela equalizing in the second half. Canada won 4-3 in a penalty shootout thanks to key saves by Maxime Crepeau.

Here's what Sidney Crosby had to say to the team:

"I just want to thank you guys, that was an incredible experience for me. To see that game live, the penalty kicks was insane, huge guts to put that one in but incredible. We're cheering for you guys and that was awesome to be a part of, so I'm really proud of you guys."

Canada will face Argentina and Lionel Messi in the semifinals.
