NHL insider Frank Seravalli has identified the Boston Bruins as a potential dark horse in the race for Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller.

Although there haven't been many discussions surrounding the Bruins in the market, their need for a top-tier center has been well-established. Moreover, the club's top brass has also hinted at possibly making some changes based on the ongoing season performances.

The Boston Bruins could be sellers or buyers before the March 7 trade deadline. Seravalli believes that the club is closely monitoring the situation regarding Miller and could be a team to watch as the trade deadline approaches.

On Amazon's Sports on Prime Canada, Seravalli said:

"I haven't heard a lot of people talking about the Boston Bruins, and their need for a top end Center has been well documented. We've also heard Cam Neely, their president of hockey operations, hint at the idea that, 'hey, we might have to rejig some things here based on the way that this season has played out.'
"I do believe that the Boston Bruins have kept very close tabs on the Miller situation with the Vancouver Canucks. I would term them as a team lurking in the weeds right now to try and monitor those prices, and wouldn't be surprised if this continues to linger on closer to the March 7 deadline," he added.

Despite the Canucks' apparent motivation to move J.T. Miller, the Bruins could be a significant team to watch out for during the discussions. Miller, signed to a seven-year, $56 million contract, has been a prominent name in the trade market recently.

According to reports, he was getting traded to the New York Rangers, but the deal fell through at the last minute due to issues with draft picks, preventing what could have been a blockbuster trade.

Boston Bruins return to winning ways

After a disappointing 5-1 defeat to the New Jersey Devils on the road, the Boston Bruins bounced back with a 2-0 win over the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden on Thursday.

The win helped the Bruins improve to 24-20-6 and 54 points, moving to third in the Atlantic Division. Meanwhile, the Senators dropped to fourth from the second wild card spot in the East.

The Bruins will hope to maintain their consistency when they host the Colorado Avalanche (28-19-2) at TD Garden on Friday. The puck drops at 1 p.m. ET.
