The Vancouver Canucks traded Bo Horvat to the the New York Islanders, kicking off the NHL trade deadline. The deal saw the 27 year-old captain make his way to a new home in Long Island in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty and a conditional first-round pick.
The Canucks will be busy in the trade market as sellers before the March 3 deadline. Let's take a look at who is on the Canucks' probable trade prospects list:
Luke Schenn
The 33-year old veteran is a hot prospect for the Canucks, as teams like the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning seem interested in the experienced defenseman. He has a very affordable salary cap hit of $850,000, increasing the chances of getting picked up by a contender.
Schenn has 16 points this season in 51 games played with three goals and 14 assists. He could be a depth player and fit in anywhere. Schenn won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Canucks will be looking to get at least a second-round pick in return.
Brock Boeser
Brock Boeser made the All-Star team for the Vancouver Canucks in 2018, grabbing over 55 points in his first two seasons.
This season, he has a -13 +/- and only scored nine goals, making it his worst scoring season. He has also sustained serious injuries throughout his career, which seem to have taken away the spark with which he entered the league.
Boeser has a high salary cap hit of $6 million, but teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, and New Jersey Devils seem interested in the 25 year-old forward.
Tyler Myers
The 33 year-old defenseman is in his fourth year as a Canuck. He has ten points this season from one goal and nine assists with a -6 +/- in 48 games. Myers too has a high salary cap hit, of $6 million. Any team that has cap space could look to add Myers to their lineup to increase their defensive depth.
Thatcher Demko
Demko was the primary goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks before he sustained a lower body injury in a 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in December. He was sidelined for six weeks, but the timeline got extended. According to reports, Demko has joined the team in practice and will return to the ice soon.
Demko's contract has a $5 million cap that will keep him in Vancouver till the 2025-26 season. He's a potential No.1 goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who don't have a primary goalkeeper next season. The Buffalo Sabres are another team that could be interested in the custodian.
Vancouver Canucks head off against ex-star Bo Horvat and his new team
The Vancouver Canucks are set to face their ex-captain and star Bo Horvat and his New York Islanders team on February 9. This will be the first time Horvat will be playing against the Canucks.
Horvat scored his first goal for the Islanders in their last game against the Seattle Kraken.
