Top insider speculates Vegas' trade package for Mitch Marner, Leon Draisaitl contract extension and more

The Edmonton Oilers avoided elimination in Game 4 to keep the Stanley Cup Final alive. But, with several teams having been eliminated for weeks, rumors have been swirling around those teams.

With the NHL draft and free agency less than three weeks away, there are plenty of trade rumors going around. Let's take a look at four rumors that have been circulating.

NHL Weekly Rumor Roundup

Mitch Marner trade package to Vegas

Mitch Marner has been the subject of trade rumors since the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated from playoff contention.

Marner has one year left on his deal but has a full no-trade clause so if he doesn't want to be traded, he won't be. However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has speculated on a potential Marner deal to Vegas.

"I had people who said to me, for example, one of the things with Marner is that a lot of people suspect that Vegas will be around him because Vegas is smart—they're around any good player. So I got people hypothesizing Shea Theodore and Logan Thompson deals to me," Friedman said.

That would be a blockbuster trade, but whether or not it would happen is to be seen.

Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers are playing in the Stanley Cup Final. According to insider Frank Seravalli, the Oilers and Draisaitl have started contract extension talks and the German forward is looking for a long-term deal.

"I believe the Oilers have already begun discussions with Draisaitl’s camp... "It’s my belief that the Draisaitl camp will want the maximum. They’re not looking for the Auston Matthews four year deal here. They’re looking at a long-term deal."

Draisaitl has been with the Oilers since Edmonton drafted him third overall in 2014.

The Ottawa Senators are expected to trade Egor Sokolov.

Sokolov was drafted 61st overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators but the Russian forward has struggled to be a full-time NHL player. He has been one of Ottawa’s top-performing AHL players, but that hasn't translated to the NHL.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Postmedia, the expectation is that the Senators will trade the Russian forward.

Sokolov played in 71 games in the AHL this past season, recording 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points.

Linus Ullmark expected to generate trade interest

The Boston Bruins have Jeremy Swayman as their starting goalie, and due to that, Linus Ullmark is expected to generate plenty of trade interest.

Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli says Ullmark will generate the most trade interest in the NHL this summer.

Ullmark won the 2023 Vezina Trophy as the league's best goalie.
