As the March 3 trade deadline approaches, the Vancouver Canucks appear to be preparing to be sellers. The Canucks traded defenseman Riley Stillman to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Josh Bloom on Feb. 27.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet's 32 Thoughts, the Canucks have received trade requests for winger Nils Hoglander.
"Friedman on 32TP talking Canucks: "The interesting one will be Hoglander. I think there have been calls on Hoglander"- NHL Watcher
"Friedman mentions at one point when Rangers were talking to them about Kravtsov they asked about Hoglander, but Canucks said no then it got to a situation where the Rangers couldn't take anyone back cause they needed to clear room"- NHL Watcher
He also mentioned that while the New York Rangers were in trade talks with the Canucks for Vitaly Kravtsov's services, they also inquired about Hoglander's situation. However, the Canucks declined their request, leaving the Rangers in a position where they were unable to sign players due to their salary cap limit.
The Canucks are out of playoff contention, and the team will need to rebuild in order to return as a strong contender. However, in order to go through the rebuilding phase, the club must add pieces to its roster while also offloading some of its players.
Vancouver Canucks trade activities
The Vancouver Canucks entered the trade deadline as sellers. On Jan. 30, the club traded star player Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders in exchange for forwards Anthony Beauvillier and Aatu Raty, as well as a conditional first-round pick in 2023.
The Canucks acquired forward Vitaly Krastsov from the New York Rangers on Feb. 25 in exchange for forward William Lockwood and a seventh-round pick. On Feb. 27, the Canucks sent defenseman Riley Stillman to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Josh Bloom.
Vancouver Canucks still have players to trade before the deadline
When it comes to the Canucks, players like Luke Schenn, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller are still available. Many playoff teams are reportedly in talks with the Canucks for the services of Luke Schenn and Brock Boeser. It will be interesting to see how the Canucks approach their business before the March 3 trade deadline.
