Samuel Hunter Bennett is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward for the Florida Panthers as of 2024. He played minor hockey for the York-Simcoe Express and the Toronto Marlboros. He was drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs in the first round (Ninth overall) of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Bennett played three seasons with the Frontenacs, totaling 155 points in 128 games. He was named to the OHL Second Team All-Rookie Team in his first season.

In 2014, Bennett was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the first round (fourth overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2015 against the Winnipeg Jets, recording his first career point on his first shift. He scored his first goal against Eddie Lack of the Vancouver Canucks and scored his first NHL goal in the playoffs against the Vancouver Canucks. At 19 years and six months old, Bennett became the youngest player in Calgary Flames history to score a hat-trick and the third-youngest player in NHL history to score four goals in a game. He also became the youngest player to ever score four goals in a game.

Where did Sam Bennett get traded to?

On April 12, 2021, Sam Bennett was traded from the Calgary Flames to the Florida Panthers, as per the NHL's official website. The trade included Bennett and a 2022 sixth-round pick going to Florida in exchange for a 2022 second-round pick and Swedish prospect Emil Heineman.

Bennett spent seven seasons with the Flames before joining the Panthers and signing a four-year, $17.6 million contract extension in July 2021. According to Spotrac, the deal included a $1 million signing bonus, $17.7 million in guaranteed money, and an annual average salary of $4.425 million.

In his debut season with the team, Bennett scored 6 goals and added 9 assists in 10 games. He played 71 games for the Panthers in the 2021-22 season, totaling 49 points. In the 2022-23 season, Sam scored 16 goals and added 24 assists in 63 games.

According to Flames Nation, the trade was viewed positively by the Flames, especially since they were likely to lose Bennett in the upcoming Seattle expansion draft. It allowed Calgary to gain valuable assets in return, including a promising young player and a higher draft pick.

Sam Bennett's previous team before being traded to the Florida Panthers was the Calgary Flames. He played with the Flames from the start of his NHL career in 2014 until the trade in April 2021.

The Calgary Flames selected Sam Bennett with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. After signing a three-year entry-level contract, he injured his shoulder during training camp and required surgery, sidelining him for five months. He returned to Kingston on February 21, 2015, and scored 24 points in 11 games.

Bennett made his NHL debut on April 12, 2015, and quickly became a key player in the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, scoring his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks.
