The San Jose Sharks, based in San Jose, California, compete in the NHL as part of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference. They were founded on May 9, 1990, and played their first season in the 1991-92 NHL season. The Sharks began playing their home games at the Cow Palace before moving to the SAP Center, known as "The Shark Tank," in 1993.
