The San Jose Sharks are an NHL team based in San Jose, California, competing in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. Established in 1990, they began playing in the 1991–92 season. Initially playing at the Cow Palace, the Sharks moved to the SAP Center, known as "The Shark Tank," in 1993. They are affiliated with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda and the ECHL's Wichita Thunder.

The Sharks were the first Bay Area team since the California Golden Seals relocated in 1976. They reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2016, losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team won the Presidents' Trophy in 2008–09 and has secured six division titles in the Pacific Division since 1993.
