Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken is a professional ice hockey team based in Seattle, competing in the NHL’s Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Kraken is named after a mythical sea monster and the Pacific octopus native to Puget Sound. The groundwork for the Kraken's introduction began in 2016 with plans to renovate KeyArena, now called Climate Pledge Arena. This venue became the home of the Kraken when it opened in 2021.

Founded after Seattle Hockey Partners secured an expansion franchise, the Kraken began play in the 2021–22 season. The Kraken made their first playoff appearance in 2023, where they upset the defending champion Colorado Avalanche in a seven-game series. However, their run ended in the second round with a loss to the Dallas Stars, marking an impressive finish to just their second season.
