He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins as the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry draft and is serving as captain for the Penguins, as of January 2025. He started his junior hockey journey with the Rimouski Oceanic where he achieved a lot of accolades and helped his team to the 2005 Memorial Cup Finals.
