Spencer Knight is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Florida Panthers of the NHL. Born on April 19, 2001, he is a first-round pick (13th overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Inspired by Henrik Lundqvist, he began his journey in goaltending at a young age, honing his skills at Darien High School, Avon Old Farms, and the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. Knight spent his collegiate career at Boston College. As a sophomore, he was named Hockey East Goaltending Champion and Player of the Year, and he twice reached the finals for the Mike Richter Award. In 2021, he left college to join the Panthers, becoming the first NHL goaltender born in the 21st century.

Spencer Knight was born in Darien, Connecticut, to Chris and Lilly Knight. His passion for ice hockey began early, starting at the age of two. By 10, Knight had transitioned to playing as a goaltender. Knight was inspired by the star goaltender of the New York Rangers - Henrik Lundqvist. Knight attended Darien High School for one year in his early education before transferring to Avon Old Farms. At Avon, he quickly became the hockey team's starting goaltender during his first season.

His parents, especially his father Chris Knight have played a pivotal role in supporting his journey to NHL stardom. Chris spent two decades as a police officer in Connecticut before transitioning into property management as per The Athletics. He has been a steadying influence in Spencer’s life.

He is the eldest child in the family and has two younger sisters - Claire and Hannah Knight. When Spencer made his NHL debut with the Florida Panthers, his parents and sisters traveled to Florida to witness the milestone moment in person. Despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited personal interactions, Knight expressed his gratitude for their presence. "I could wave and see them in the stands," he told ESPN. His sister Claire Knight is at Boston College as per her Instagram profile.
