The St. Louis Blues are a professional ice hockey team based in St. Louis, Missouri and compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as part of the Central Division in the Western Conference. Remarkably, their name comes from W.C Handy's song "Saint Louis Blues" and wear a royal blue jersey while they are playing. As a whole, they have been one of the most successful franchises in terms Division titles won (10) and have also won all the other championships at least once, making them one of the select few teams to have achieved this feat.
While Enterprise Center in downtown St. Louis. serves as their home arena, they are also notable for their rivalry with the Chicago Blackhawks. A game, which more often than naught sees brawls, intense penalty minutes and fighting.
St Louis Blues Draft Picks Year by Year
The St. Louis Blues have had a great time at the NHL Drafts over the years as they have often found key players in the latter rounds. This includes goalie Mike Liut, right winger Jamal Mayers, center Michal Handzuš and right winger Tony Currie. Notably, Liut was a top player during the 1980s and was the Blues' main goalie from 1979 to 1985, while winning the Ted Lindsay Trophy once in his career. Moving forward, Jamal Mayers was selected 89th overall in the 1993 draft and went on to spend ten seasons with the Blues. However, Mayers was later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs and finished his career with the Chicago Blackhawks, winning the Stanley Cup in 2013. On the other hand, Handzuš played two and a half seasons with the Blues and was part of a notable trade that brought Keith Tkachuk to St. Louis.
Recent fourth-round picks include goaltenders Joel Hofer and Ville Husso, and winger Alexey Toropchenko. Hofer, drafted 107th overall in 2018, has shown talent as a backup goaltender. While, Toropchenko, picked 113th overall in 2017, has emerged as a reliable forward and penalty killer. Lastly, Husso, selected 94th overall in 2014, played a key role before being traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
