St. Louis Blues emerging forward Jake Neighbours turns 21 today. During the Blues' game against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, the 21-year-old made headlines after getting into a fight with Canucks defenseman Kyle Burroughs.
The Blues' youngster and the Canucks defenseman dealt some heavy blows to each other. During the skirmish, Jake Neighbours had the upper hand and was able to take down Burroughs.
Jake Neighbours appeared to be on top during the fight, but he was later left with a bleeding nose. Tanya Lacoursiere, Jake's mother, was in attendance at the Arena on Tuesday to watch her son play.
She said:
"It’s incredible. Watching your children do what they love is like a front row seat to the best show on earth, so it’s been fantastic."
When asked about her son's altercation during the matchup, Tanya Lacoursiere stated:
"Shaky. I’ll talk to him later but I much would have preferred a goal. A goal would have been better, but I think he did OK."
This was Jake's second fight so far in his brief NHL career. Jake is currently into his second season in the NHL. The 21-year-old has played in 35 games and has managed to rack up 9 points, totaling 5 goals and 4 assists.
The 21-year-old has averaged 12:06 minutes of playing time on the ice and has 18 Penalties in Minutes (PIM) with a (plus minus) of minus 17. He has also scored one PPG and one (PPP), including a single game-winning goal.
A look into the NHL journey of Jake Neighbours
The 21-year-old winger began his hockey career in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League playing for the Calgary Midget AAA Buffaloes. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
Neighbours joined the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2019-20 season and recorded 24 points in the 47 regual season games. He also helped the Oil Kings reach the post-season and was the only player from the team to score in the playoffs.
By 2020, Neighbours had already established himself as one of the emerging hockey talents. His career highlights came in 2020 as he was picked 26th overall in the fourth round by the St. Louis Blues in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on October 16, 2021 during the Blues' 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
