Eric Staal

Eric Staal, the eldest of the brothers, was born on October 29, 1984. He started his major junior hockey career with the Peterborough Petes in the OHL. Eric was a prominent figure in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, where he was chosen as the second overall pick by the Carolina Hurricanes. Following his draft, he immediately began his rookie season and even participated in the Young Stars game during the 2004 NHL All-Star Game. Eric had a high point in his career on June 19, 2006, when he won the Stanley Cup with his team after a victory in Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. On January 20, 2010, he assumed the role of captain for the Hurricanes, becoming the fifth captain since the team's relocation to North Carolina.

His leadership qualities were further recognized when he was chosen as one of the captains for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game, hosted in Raleigh. In February 2016, Eric was traded to the New York Rangers, joining his brother Marc. Later, he signed a three-year contract with the Minnesota Wild as a free agent on July 1, 2016. In 2020, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres, and in 2021, to the Montreal Canadiens. Eric Staal signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers in 2022, and as of now, he is an unrestricted free agent.

Eric Staal represented Team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics, where they secured an Olympic gold medal. Eric Staal assumed the role of Team Canada's captain in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Marc Staal

Marc Staal was born on January 13, 1987. He is the second-oldest brother and the only one among them who plays as a defenseman. He played his major junior hockey with the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL from 2003 to 2007. Marc was selected as the 12th overall pick by the New York Rangers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in 2007. Like Eric, he also participated in the YoungStars game during his rookie season. In 2010, after signing a 5-year extension with the Rangers, he was named an alternate captain of the team. However, Marc faced some challenging times due to injuries, including post-concussion symptoms and an eye injury. In 2020, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. For the 2022-23 season, he played for the Florida Panthers. After spending a season with the Florida Panthers, Marc Staal signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on July 3, 2023. Marc Staal is playing for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Jordan Staal

Jordan Staal, born on September 10, 1988, is the third-oldest brother. He also played major junior hockey for the Peterborough Petes, the same team as his brother Eric. Jordan was the second overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He made his NHL debut in October 2006, a year before his older brother Marc. Throughout his career, Jordan was recognized for his talent. He was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy, and awarded to the NHL Rookie of the Year in his rookie season. He served as an alternate captain of the Penguins and was part of their 2009 Stanley Cup-winning team. In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Jordan was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and played alongside his older brother Eric and signed a significant 10-year, $60 million contract with the team. As of the 2023-24 season, Jordan holds the captaincy for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jared Staal

Jared Staal, the youngest among the brothers, was born on August 21, 1990. He played major junior hockey with the Sudbury Wolves and briefly alongside his brother Marc during the 2006-07 season. Jared was drafted 49th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, making him the only brother to be selected by a Western Conference team. After some minor league experience with the San Antonio Rampage, he was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010, the same team his brothers Eric and Jordan played for. He began his professional career with the Hurricanes' AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, and later had stints with the ECHL and AHL. In 2013, he got a chance to play in the NHL for two games, and it was special because he played alongside his brothers Eric and Jordan. Later on, he played in the EIHL for the Edinburgh Capitals during the 2017-18 season. After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching and worked as an associate and assistant coach in the ECHL and AHL. Jared Staal is an assistant coach for the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL)
