Tampa Bay Lightning and the Washington Capitals match overview
The Tampa Bay Lightning (43-26-6) will play the Washington Capitals (34-32-9) tonight at Amalie Arena. The Bolts' last five games have not gone in their favor as they have only managed to win once. However, the Bolts were finally able to end their four-game losing streak on Tuesday by securing a 4-0 shutout win against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Bolts goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy was outstanding for the team on the night as he denied all 31 SOGs from the Hurricanes. Captain Steven Stamkos showed up on Tuesday as he scored a goal and provided two assists. Brayden Point continued his impressive form against the Hurricanes, scoring two goals and providing two assists during the win.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are only shy of four points to make it to the playoffs for the 15th time in franchise history.
Meanwhile, the Washington Capitals have been struggling to find their form recently. The Capitals are currently battling for a Wild Card spot in the highly intensified Eastern Conference. The Caps have only managed to win one game in their previous five games, with their recent loss coming against the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
Alex Ovechkin has been the leading goalscorer for the team. Ovi has played in 69 games and has managed to accumulate 72 points with 42 goals and 30 assists.
The Capitals are currently five points behind the second-placed Pittsburgh Penguins in the East Wild Card standings. With seven games remaining on the schedule, the Caps need to go all-in to make a late push.
