The NHL released the schedule for the 2024-25 NHL season last week. Once the schedule was out, fans were quick to check it and note down the dates for some marquee games.
The Edmonton Oilers have plenty of must-watch matchups this season, in large part due to fans getting to see Connor McDavid play. But after losing in the Stanley Cup final this last year, there are more intriguing contests on the slate.

The game that most Oilers fans have circled is Feb. 27 as Edmonton goes on the road to play the Florida Panthers.
Florida defeated the Oilers in the Stanley Cup final, and this is the first time Edmonton goes on the road to play the Panthers since losing Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final in Florida.
#2 Winnipeg Jets, Oct. 9
The Edmonton Oilers open their NHL season at home on Oct. 9 against the Winnipeg Jets.
The first contest of the season and the home opener are always marquee matchups, and Edmonton's first game of the year is also at home. Fans will be eager to watch the Oilers play, especially after all the changes to their roster.
But it is the first chance Edmonton fans can see their team play heading into the 2024-25 NHL season as the Oilers are one of the cup favorites.
#3 Calgary Flames, Oct. 13
The Battle of Alberta is one of the best rivalries in all of sports, and the first meeting of 2024-25 is in Edmonton on Sunday, Oct. 13.
The matchup is always a marquee game, and it happening so early in the year adds some excitement to it.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in the second round of the Stanley Cup finals. Their first meeting will be in Vancouver on Saturday, Nov. 9.
During the series, the teams, especially their fanbases, became massive rivals. Edmonton and Vancouver both have hopes of winning the division, so this will be a good test to see where both teams are at.
#4 Toronto Maple Leafs, Nov. 16
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the most talked-about team in the NHL, and Edmonton gets to play them on a Saturday night, which will be a nationally broadcast game in Canada.
McDavid also grew up near Toronto, so it is his return home that will add to the intrigue of the contest.
Edmonton and Toronto are two of the better Canadian teams, so it's a good test to see which one is better.
#5 Utah, Nov. 29
The Edmonton Oilers go on the road to play Utah on Friday, Nov. 29, which will be a historic game.
It marks the first time the Oilers are playing in Utah as they relocated from Arizona. Utah also hyped up this game in its scheduled release, as the franchise is promoting it as the Connor McDavid game.
