The NHL playoffs are nearly over as the Florida Panthers are up 3-2 on the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final. During the playoff run, Oilers star Connor McDavid has been leading the way with 42 points.

McDavid has already set the record for most assists in a single playoff run, but where does he rank for most points in a playoff run?

#5. Evgeni Malkin, 36 points, 2009

In the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs, Evgeni Malkin finished with 36 points.

Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games in the finals. In his playoff run, Malkin played 24 games, recording 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points.

The Russian forward also won the Conn Smythe as the playoff MVP in 2009.

Paul Coffey is one of the best defensemen ever, as he was also fantastic offensively. He has plenty of records, like most goals in a season by a defenseman, most assists in one game by a defenseman, most points in one game by a defenseman and fastest defenseman in NHL history to score 1,000 points among others.

In the 1985 Stanley Cup playoffs, Coffey showed off his skills as he recorded 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points in just 18 games played. Edmonton hoisted the Cup and Coffey played a key role in doing so.

Connor McDavid has been a key reason why the Edmonton Oilers are in the Stanley Cup Final.

McDavid is arguably the best player in the world and has been playing like that in these playoffs. McDavid set the record for most assists in a single playoff run as in 23 games he has eight goals and 34 assists for 42 points.

McDavid has at least one more game and could have up to three more to add to his total and rise up the list.

#2. Mario Lemieux, 44, 1991

Mario Lemieux has found himself on this list multiple times but his best playoff run came in 1991 when he had 44 points in 23 games.

Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup that season as the star forward had 16 goals and 28 assists.

Lemieux also has another playoffs run with 34 points.

#1. Wayne Gretzky, 47, 1985

Wayne Gretzky is the greatest NHL player of all time and it shouldn't be a surprise he has the record for most points in a single playoff run.

In 1985, Gretzky finished the playoffs with 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points in just 18 games as the Oilers cruised to winning the Stanley Cup.

Gretzky also has playoff runs of 43, 40, 38 and 35 points.
