The Toronto Maple Leafs are in their window to push for a Stanley Cup, but the team also has some key prospects ready to make a push for a roster spot in the 2024-25 NHL season.
Although the Maple Leafs have traded plenty of draft picks away to get NHL players at the deadline, they still have some star prospects, including Easton Cowan.
Toronto Maple Leafs Top 3 prospects
#1. Easton Cowan
Easton Cowan was selected 28th overall in the 2023 NHL draft, and at the time, it appeared to be a reach. However, just one year later, Cowan is one of the top prospects in the NHL and has a legitimate chance of making the roster next season.
If Nick Robertson doesn't re-sign, as he is an RFA and has said he wants to be traded, Cowan could take his spot. Last season in the OHL, Cowan recorded 34 goals and 62 assists for 96 points.
#2. Fraser Minten
Fraser Minten made the Toronto Maple Leafs out of camp last season before being sent back to the OHL. Minten projects to be a third or fourth-line center in the NHL and he will have to have a good camp to make the team again.
Minten can be in the AHL next season, which is a benefit as Toronto can call him up if someone gets hurt. Minten will likely play NHL games next season for the Maple Leafs.
#3. Roni Hirvonen
Roni Hirvonen was drafted 59th overall in the 2020 NHL draft as the Finnish forward played in the AHL last season.
Hirvonen will likely begin the year in the AHL next season, but he could get called up if Toronto deals with injuries. Hirvonen is one of the top forward prospects who can be a goal scorer and give the Maple Leafs some offense if needed.
Hirvonen can also be someone to watch in a potential trade at the deadline, as he could be part of a package to acquire an NHL player.
