Vancouver Canucks NHL Mock Draft 2024: Projected picks and more

The Vancouver Canucks had a surprising 2023-24 NHL season as they won the Pacific division and made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. However, they were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in seven games.

Following the Stanley Cup's conclusion, the Canucks' attention turns to the NHL Draft, set to take place on June 28-29. It will be followed by the free agency on July 1. Entering the draft, Vancouver has five total selections and none until the third round.

Vancouver Canucks NHL Mock Draft 2024

Round 3, Pick 93: Nathan Villeneuve, C

With the Vancouver Canucks' first pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, they selected Nathan Villeneuve, a centerman from the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL.

Villeneuve is 6-feet in height and is coming off a solid season in the OHL as he recorded 23 goals and 27 assists for 50 points in 56 games. His offensive game took a giant leap forward after his rookie season in the OHL where he only scored 12 goals.

Villeneuve will return to the OHL next season, but he could project as a second or third-line centerman in the NHL.

Round 4, Pick 125: Tarin Smith, D

With their second pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks select Tarin Smith, a defenseman out of the WHL from the Everett Silvertips.

Smith became a full-time player in the WHL this past season and had a solid year as he scored eight goals and 36 assists for 44 points in 67 games. Smith can help run a power play and projects as a bottom-pair defenseman in the NHL.

Round 6, Pick 162: Ivan Yunin, G

Most NHL teams tend to take a goalie later in the draft as it is hard to project a goalie, which is what the Canucks do here.

With the 162nd overall pick, the Canucks select Ivan Yunin out of Russia. This past season, he played in the U18 Russian league and went 16-2 with a 1.31 GAA and a .952 SV%.

However, there are questions on if Yunin will ever come to North America or how he will play against pros. But, it's worth a flier this late in the draft.

Round 6, Pick 189: Diego Buttazzoni, C

With the 189th pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks select centerman Diego Buttazzoni from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

Buttazzoni is from British Columbia so he would get a chance to play for his hometown team if he makes the NHL.

With the Winterhawks last year, Buttazzoni recorded 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points in 67 games.

Round 7, Pick 221: Nate Misskey, D

With the Canucks' final pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, they selected Nate Misskey, a defenseman from the Victoria Royals of the WHL.

Misskey is 19 and wasn't drafted last year but did have a solid year in the WHL this past season and should hear his name called this time around. Misskey recorded seven goals and 27 assists for 34 points as his offensive game really took a step forward which helps him as a prospect.
