The Florida Panthers beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 on Tuesday at the Honda Center. With the win, the Panthers extended their winning streak to two games, pulling to within three points of the idle Toronto Maple Leafs for the Atlantic Division lead.

Frank Vatrano opened the scoring at 4:57 of the first period, with Mason McTavish also scoring for the Anaheim Ducks. Meanwhile, Sam Reinhart, Evan Rodrigues, Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Bennett and Uvis Balinkskis netted for the Florida Panthers.

So, here’s a look at the three key reasons why the Florida Panthers beat the Anaheim Ducks:

Three reasons why the Florida Panthers beat the Anaheim Ducks

#3 The Panthers won a relatively even game

The score may have looked lopsided, but the Florida Panthers won a relatively even game. The Ducks had a slight edge in shots at 30-29. The Cats got the advantage in the faceoff circle 57.6% to 42.4%. The Ducks outhit the Panthers 18-15 and blocked more shots at 17-15.

Nevertheless, the Panthers made the most of their opportunities, scoring five goals. In comparison, the Ducks couldn't capitalize on their chances. While the Ducks scored a power play goal, it wasn’t enough to get past Sergei Bobrovsky, who was sharp on the night.

Eventually, it was a good effort by the Ducks, but they were unable to get past a superior and more experienced Florida Panthers outfit.

#2 Bobrovsky’s 28 saves

Speaking of Sergei Bobrovsky, he outplayed his Ducks counterpart Lukas Dostal. Bobrovsky made 28 saves, giving the Panthers a chance to win the game, especially after the Ducks had made the game close late in the first period.

At 3-2 after 20 minutes, Bobrovsky shut the door, preserving the Panthers’ lead. They then scored twice in the third period to distance themselves from the Ducks. The strong performance allowed the Cats to skate away with the two points.

#1 Verhaeghe game-winner

Carter Verhaeghe scored his 11th of the season to make the game 3-1 at 18:49 of the first period. The goal would prove to be the game-winner as the Ducks pulled to within one, at 3-2.

Here’s a look at the goal:

While the Cats added two insurance goals, it was Verhaeghe’s goal that lifted the club past the Ducks. Verhaeghe ended the night with a goal and assist, earning him the game’s second star.

The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday night as they continue their West Coast trip, taking on the LA Kings at the Crypto.com Arena.
