The Washington Capitals, commonly known as the Caps, are a professional ice hockey team based in Washington, D.C. who compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as part of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. Moreover, the team is owned by Ted Leonsis through Monumental Sports & Entertainment and initially played their home games at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland, before relocating to the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., in 1997.

In terms of achivements, the Caps have been successful in winning 13 division titles alongside three Presidents' Trophy and two conference championships. They have also won the Stanley Cup once till date, in the 2017-18 season, where they defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in five games to claim the ultimate ice-hockey prize. Prior to that, they had reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998, where they lost to the Detroit Red Wings in a clean sweep.
