Hailing from Sarasota, Florida, Clark Dean is an American rower, who was born on February 3, 2000. He made his debut with the US national team at the young age of 19. He is the first US rower to nab the world title in the junior men’s single in 40 years when he won in 2017. He has gained experience by competing in various prestigious competitions like the Olympic Games and the World Championships. He completed his high school at Pine View School and gained his degree of AB in history at Harvard College, where he was the captain of the men’s heavyweight rowing team and was also the first rower in the college to win the All-American honors two times.
Before joining Harvard, Dean was a part of the Sarasota crew club team, where he played for varsity eight for four years. He was also the captain in his senior year and was awarded the title of the US Rowing Junior National team athlete of the year in 2018. He received the title of the junior athlete of the year in 2017 too. Along with this, he was the state champion of the men’s varsity 8+ in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and added more feathers to his hat by becoming the 2017 and 2018 State Champion in the men’s varsity 4+. It does not end here, he has also nabbed multiple wins, having become the regional champion in the varsity of men’s four.
Dean competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he finished fifteen in the men’s four and now he is poised to compete in the second Olympic games of his career in the men’s eight. He qualified for the 2024 Summer Games after his stellar performance at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic & Paralympic Qualification Regatta.
