Women's rhythmic gymnastics was introduced to the Olympic program in 1984, and 16 years later, men's and women's trampoline competitions were added to the gymnastics schedule. The old type of gymnastics is now explicitly referred to as artistic gymnastics, to distinguish it from the three disciplines combined, as these new disciplines are being competed in at the Olympics.
The Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), which was established on July 23, 1881, in Liège, with the original members being Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, is responsible for overseeing the sport globally. The Bureau des Fédérations Européennes de Gymnastique (FEG) was its original name; in 1921, it changed to FIG.
The U.S.A. has won a total of 123 combined medals at the Olympics in Artistic Gymnastics, including 40 gold medals, 43 silver medals and 38 bronze medals. Let us take a closer look at the medals won by Americans in Artistic Gymnastics in the past.
