Paris Olympic Medals

Medals have always played an important role in the Olympic games since the modern edition of the games started in 1896. It is a way of rewarding the best athletes for their performances throughout the games. Notably, in the ancient Olympic Games, there was no concept of medals. The winners were awarded with olive wreaths, which was also a way of honoring Zeus, the King of Gods in Greek mythology.

The system of awarding medals started with the modern Olympic Games. However, the winners were awarded silver medals and olive branches while runners-up received copper or bronze medals and laurel branches. They were designed by Jules-Clement Chaplain. The concept of the gold, silver, and bronze medals started at the 1904 Summer Olympics, in which the athletes who came first were awarded gold medals, athletes who came second, a silver medal, and athletes who came third a bronze medal. Since then, the designs of the medals have been changed over the years with 1904 having the only rectangular medals. The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France will also be witness to medals being awarded to all the winners from different sports based on their performances.

Different medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics

The medals for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France were designed by Chaumet in cooperation with Martin Fourcade, chairman of the Paris 2024 Athletes Commission. The different medals for the Olympics are gold medals, silver medals, and bronze medals. The medals have been made with pieces of original iron from the Eiffel Tower.

The iron from the Eiffel Tower is formed in a hexagon at the center of the medals, which is symbolic of France’s geometrical shape. Moreover, they have been returned to their original color after removing them from the brown color of the Eiffel Tower. They fit in very well with the gold, silver, and bronze medal cores. Six appendages in the form of gems have been used to properly fit in the hexagon at the center of the medals. Moreover, there are parallel lines moving outward from the hexagon. These lines are embossed which symbolizes both the radiant nature of France and the performances of the athletes in the game.

What kind of medals and how will they be awarded to winners at 2024 Paris Olympics

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France will have three kinds of medals - gold medal, silver medal, and bronze medal.

The medals will be awarded to the first three winners in all the sports This will take place on a podium. The athlete who comes first will stand on the highest step in the centre and will receive a gold medal and also will be declared an Olympic Champion. The second-ranking athlete will stand on the right side of the winner and will get a silver medal while the third-ranking athlete will stand on the left side of the winner and will get a bronze medal. Then, the flags of the three athletes will be raised and the national anthem of the winner will be played.

Notably, the names of the first eight athletes in each sport will be announced to the fans and they will also receive a diploma.
