The inaugural season of Unrivaled could have a big impact on the future of the WNBA. Several stars are together in Miami to play in this competition until March, meaning that the constant contact with each other could prompt some to make a decision about their future with free agency reaching its peak.
Plenty of new duos or trios could be formed during the competition. Some players haven't been shy about their desire to team up with others, but that might not be as easy as they think.
These are five Unrivaled teammates that could play together in the WNBA next season.
5 Unrivaled teammates that could team up in WNBA
Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young - Las Vegas Aces
With Alysha Clark becoming an unrestricted free agent this year, the Las Vegas Aces would need somebody to replace her. Alyssa Thomas is a solid option for the 2022 and 2023 WNBA champions. The five-time WNBA All-Star is an upgrade over Clark, but she was cored, which would make negotiations more difficult for the Aces.
If they manage to land both Jewell Loyd and Thomas, the Aces will be championship favorites again.
DiJonai Carrington and Courtney Vandersloot - Connecticut Sun
Speaking of the Connecticut Sun, Courtney Vandersloot could be a good addition to them. The former Chicago Sky player finished her contract with the New York Liberty and wasn't cored, meaning she can sign with a different team.
Her time together with DiJonai Carrington on Mist BC could affect her free-agency decision, but the Chicago Sky have made her their top target too.
Kahleah Copper and Angel Reese - Chicago Sky
This one might be tricky, as Kahleah Copper didn't have the smoothest exit from the Chicago Sky. She was traded to the Phoenix Mercury last year, citing that she wanted to be in a different environment. It's unclear whether she wants to be back with the Sky, but Angel Reese has already started recruiting her.
Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart - New York Liberty
These two have a history together, as they defended the Seattle Storm and won two championships together. Loyd is on her way out of the franchise and could reunite with Stewart again after their time together in Unrivaled. Stewart even hyped up their reunion in Unrivaled.
Jewell is reportedly favoring a move to Las Vegas, but a backcourt with Sabrina Ionescu would be a nightmare to any opponent.
Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally - New York Liberty
Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally also have a history as they played together in college, making the Oregon Ducks a force to be reckoned with. While reunited in Unrivaled, Ionescu has supported Sabally as she navigates free agency, but hasn't closed the door on the German-American player joining her at Barclays Center.
If the Loyd-Ionescu backcourt would be remarkable, a frontcourt with Sabally and Breanna Stewart could be game over for the rest of the league.
