DeWanna Bonner is a professional basketball player who plays at the Shooting Guard/ Small Forward position. At 6’4", Bonner has been a phenomenal scorer on the basketball court right from her days at Fairfield High School where she was selected as a McDonald’s All-American in 2005. She then played basketball for Auburn University, studying psychology as her academic major, and left the university as one of the most accomplished basketball players in the school’s history. Bonner was awarded the SEC Player of the Year in 2009 and was also honored with multiple All-American nominations. Her college performance made her the fifth overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury. While with the Mercury, she won two WNBA championships (2009 and 2014) and has been awarded the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year three years in a row (2009-2011).

Bonner was traded to Connecticut Sun in 2020, where she plays with her fiancee, Alyssa Thomas, and she has continued to perform well to be part of the All-Star team and one of the best players in the league. Bonner is a prolific scorer who is also a great defender and a team captain, she has also played for teams in the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Russia. During the 2024 WNBA season, DeWanna Bonner averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the 2024 WNBA season while playing 31.8 minutes per game.

DeWanna Bonner had an illustrious college career at Auburn University, where she played from 2005 to 2009. As a freshman, she made an immediate impact, leading the team in scoring with an average of 13.5 points per game, a feat not achieved by a freshman since the 1980-81 season. Over her four years at Auburn, Bonner consistently improved her game, culminating in a standout senior season where she averaged 21.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Her scoring prowess led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in points per game during the 2008-09 season, making her the first Auburn player to achieve this milestone.

Bonner’s exceptional performance earned her numerous accolades, including being named the SEC Player of the Year in 2009. She was also a three-time All-SEC selection and received All-American honors from both the Associated Press and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Bonner’s contributions were pivotal in leading Auburn to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, and she finished her college career as the all-time leading scorer in Auburn history with 2,162 points, which was 100 more than the former school record. She was also listed in the top 10 of every major statistical category at Auburn, something very few players can achieve in their careers.

DeWanna Bonner attended Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Alabama, where she was named both a McDonald's and WBCA All-American and participated in their All-America games. Bonner earned Street & Smith First Team All-America honors in 2004 and was recognized as a USA Today Junior All-American. She was also recognized as a USA Today Junior All-American and honored as the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year, solidifying her reputation as a standout young player. Averaging 21 points and 9 rebounds per game in 2004, she was featured in USA Today as one of the top 25 recruits in the nation during the summer of 2005.
