Cameron Brink is eyeing a return in time for her second WNBA season after suffering a torn ACL that ended her rookie campaign in 2024. Brink tore her ACL 15 games into the season, on June 18 versus the Connecticut Sun, and underwent surgery a month later, on July 17.
On Dec. 17, Brink inked a multi-year deal with Unrivaled, a new professional women's league founded by fellow WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Sabrina Ionescu.
Brink's commitment to Unrivaled sparked speculation regarding her availability for the league's inaugural season, which tips off on Jan. 17. On Tuesday, Brink settled the debate with a disappointing injury update.
"I'm not able to do a ton," Brink said. "I'm just really appreciative that I'm able to be here and that my teammates are super accepting of me and cheering me on from the sidelines. I haven't been able to do a ton, but (am doing) more and more every day."
The Cameron Brink update, while disappointing, isn't shocking. Torn ACLs tend to require six to nine months to heal fully, with Brink six months removed from an operation to repair the tendon.
Brink will be out for her first season with Unrivaled but is in line to be on the floor in time for her second WNBA season.
Cameron Brink's Lunar Owls set for season opener
Unrivaled will kick off its inaugural season on Jan. 17, when the Mist take on Cameron Brink's Lunar Owls Basketball Club at 7 p.m. EST.
With Brink sidelined, the Lunar Owls will be led by a five-player rotation of Napheesa Collier, Courtney Williams, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Allisha Gray and Shakira Austin. Six teams make up Unrivaled, with each roster comprising six players.
Unrivaled follows a 3x3 format, similar to Olympic 3x3 basketball, but is played on a full, albeit shortened, court. The league will give women's basketball stars alternative earning opportunities during the offseason, as many WNBA players play overseas in alternative professional leagues during the offseason.
Broadcasting for Unrivaled will be provided by TNT, who signed a multi-year deal with the league in October. All Unrivaled games will be available for streaming on MAX.
