Laces Basketball Club and Vinyl Basketball Club met in a battle of undefeated teams in Unrivaled Basketball League on Friday in Miami, engaging in a nip-and-tuck affair before the Laces pulled off a hard-earned 83-79 victory to stay undefeated in the tournament.

Tiffany Hayes took charge for the Laces, who played without Jackie Young, who was continues to be out with a right knee injury, finishing with 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting and 4-of-8 from three. She also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal in 13 minutes.

Kayla McBride backstopped her with 22 points, going 7-of-14 from the field. Her last two points, off a coast-to-coast drive to the basket, was the deciding bucket that gave the Laces its third win in as many games in Unrivaled.

Alyssa Thomas, meanwhile, added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

For Vinyl it was Dearica Hamby who top-scored with 20 points, with Rhyne Howard and Arike Ogunbowale adding 16 points apiece.

The game got off to a competitive start, with the score knotted at 10-all in the first three minutes of the match. Laces, however, would outscore Vinyl for the remainder of the opening quarter, 14-10, to take a four-point cushion, 24-20, in the first seven minutes.

In the second frame, Laces tried to pull away behind the hot shooting of Tiffany Hayes, exrtending its lead to as much as 14 points, 43-29, with 2:03 to go in the canto. But Vinyl finished the quarter strong, going on an 11-2 run to narrow the gap to just five points, 45-40, at the halftime break.

The teams continued to battle it out in the third quarter, but Laces remained on top of things, holding sway on the lead of Hayes and McBride, to secure a 71-60 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Vinyl showed resilience in the payoff quarter, coming to within two points, 81-79. But McBride put the game away by scoring the final bucket off a coast-to-coast drive to the basket to get her team over the winning score of 82 and win, 83-79.

The win improved Laces to a 3-0 record to stay undefeated alongside Lunar Owls BC (2-0). Vinyl, meanwhile, dropped to 2-1. Laces next plays on Monday against Rose BC while Vinyl returns on the same against Lunar Owls BC.
