Skylar Diggins-Smith stands out in various ways. Her list of accomplishments is extensive, her brand endorsements are numerous and her cultural impact on the WNBA is unique. Among all these distinctions, Diggins-Smith has left a memorable impression on fans with one simple accessory: her signature headband.

While she competes in the intense 3x3 league, Unrivaled, a collaborative Instagram post on Wednesday evoked nostalgia by sharing images and clips of her wearing the headband. Diggins-Smith later shared this post in her Instagram stories.

The Instagram post includes a clip of Skylar Diggins-Smith making a steal and scoring a left-handed layup during a fast break for Notre Dame while wearing her headband. This clip is from an exciting triple-overtime game in Mar. 2013, where Diggins-Smith led the Fighting Irish to a 96-87 victory over UConn, clinching the Big East title.

The IG post also features clips of Diggins-Smith's appearance on the "Unapologetically Angel" podcast earlier this month. Speaking with host Angel Reese, the Seattle Storm guard discussed the rapid rise in popularity of her headband during her college days:

"One day, I just went to the Notre Dame training room and was, like, let me see that tennis headband," Diggins-Smith told Reese. "It gave me a little swag...and then it became a thing. They started selling different colors." (Timestamp: 21:15)

Diggins-Smith, who played four seasons with the Fighting Irish before getting picked third overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft, expressed some regret over not profiting from the lucrative sales of headbands.

When Reese brought up how Diggins-Smith could have benefited from a name, image and likeness (NIL) deal had it existed during her college days, the mother of two responded with a lighthearted joke:

"Listen, I'mma have three more kids so I can get reparations." (Timestamp: 20:08)

Skylar Diggins-Smith takes a shot at recruiting Angel Reese

During the lighthearted podcast episode featuring Skylar Diggins-Smith and Angel Reese, the conversation subtly shifted towards recruitment. When Diggins-Smith mentioned her training at the Seattle Storm facility, Reese commented on how it was "top-notch." This prompted Diggins-Smith to extend an invitation to the young WNBA star:

"You should always come visit ours," an eager Diggins-Smith told Reese. "I like the green, it's a good start."

Diggins-Smith was referring to the green beanie Reese was wearing, as it matches the color of the Storm's uniforms. Whether Reese will consider Diggins-Smith's comments further remains to be seen.
