Rutgers freshman guard Kiyomi McMiller left Sue Bird and some members of the NBA/WNBA community in awe with a move reminiscent of an AND-1 mixtape. In the Scarlet Knights' game against Wagner on Sunday, McMiller busted out Allen Iverson's famous Reebok commercial ballhandling move, tossing the ball from her left hand to her right, while doing a complete 360-degree turn in between.
The move left McMiller's defender out of position as she drove and made a right-handed floater. On Wednesday's episode of Bird's "A Touch More" podcast, she and Megan Rapinoe discussed the move.
Bird compared it to the move Iverson did in his 1998 Reebok Answer I commercial while praising McMiller for pulling it off during a game. During the segment, she and Rapinoe mimicked the ESPN highlight sound, indicating that they believed the move should land McMiller on SportsCenter.
"We talked about Kiyomi McMiller last week, she was bombing those threes, really fun to watch," Bird said (11:00). "She basically did an And-1 mixtape move it was AI's cross from the '90s, she finished the game 10-20, 24 points, 10 rebounds, but the spin move, she hit it, drove and hit a little floater."
Sue Bird shouts out Tennessee women's basketball team for making history
On Wednesday's "A Touch More" podcast episode with Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird gave a shoutout to the Tennessee women's basketball team for making history.
After talking about the team on last week's episode, the four-time WNBA champion praised the Volunteers for becoming the first team ever to hit 30 3-pointers in a game.
Against the North Carolina Central Eagles on Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers made 30 of 63 3-pointers en route to a 139-59 win.
"I just want to shout out, we talked about Tennessee last week, this week they set a record. First team in women's or men's division one NBA or WNBA history to make 30 threes in a game.
"They were led by Samar Spencer with nine, they also scored the most points, I think it was like 139, in a game in school history and SEC history 30 threes. To give a little bit of context, Warriors just tied their franchise record with 27 threes. The NBA record is 29."
Between Kiyomi McMiller, Paige Bueckers, and Tennessee, it's certainly an exciting time for women's college basketball.
