Sami Whitcomb was born in Ventura, California, and played college basketball for the Washington Huskies. She went undrafted in the 2010 WNBA Draft and decided to pursue her career in Australia. She dominated the State Basketball League now known as “NBL1” with the Rockingham Flames and was a three-time SBL scoring champion, three-time SBL MVP, two-time SBL Finals MVP and won two SBL Championships. She also played in the NBL with the Perth Lynx and won two NBL Championships, made four All-WNBL first teams and won the NBL top shooter award in 2017. After dominating in Australia, Whitcomb was signed by the Seattle Storm in 2017.

Whitcomb became an Australian citizen in 2018 and since then she has represented them in two FIBA World Cups in 2018 Spain and 2022 Australia, the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won her first Olympic medal as Australia defeated Belgium in the quarter-final match.
