Since 2004, the WWE Hall of Fame has been a staple of WrestleMania weekend. The event returned to coincide with WrestleMania XX. Some members of that class included Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan, Harley Race, Sgt. Slaughter, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, and Superstar Billy Graham.
Each year, the greatest in professional wrestling has been forever enshrined in this fraternity. On Friday evening, a total of 19 individuals were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame to bring the total number of people at 183.
Headlining this year's class was former WCW and WWE Champion Goldberg. He was also joined by the Dudley Boyz, Jeff Jarrett, Ivory, Hillbilly Jim, Mark Henry, Jarrius 'JJ' Robertson, Kid Rock, and 10 legacy inductees such as Lord Alfred Hayes.
This year's ceremony lasted nearly four and a half hours, and this article will cover my five favorite moments on Friday. Let's start with the long-awaited return of Sexual Chocolate...
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 The return of Sexual Chocolate
Mark Henry's induction speech was probably the most emotional of everyone's. He broke down in tears when talking about his mother taking him to see Andre the Giant for the very first time.
It was an amazing story, especially when he talked about being knocked down by the other kids only to have Andre recognize it and pick him up.
The lighter side of Henry's induction speech, came when he transformed back into his Sexual Chocolate gimmick we all know and love.
Someone from the back placed a cape on Mark Henry, and he started his smooth talking with Stephanie McMahon, as his first target before rightfully ending the great moment by hitting on his wife Jana.
#4 The Dudley Boyz put a production 'crew member' through a table
The Dudley Boyz, Bubba Ray, and D-Von kicked off the evening in spectacular fashion. They were energetic, funny, and just plain entertaining. Bubba Ray even joked that in all of the time he's known D-Von he waited this long to actually be funny.
Bubba and D-Von specifically thanked people such as Mae Young, Spike Dudley, and Tommy Dreamer for helping the Dudley's to become the most decorated tag team in professional wrestling history.
After a great moment (which I will mention later in the list), Bubba and D-Von started to speak when their music started to play. They looked visibly upset that they were getting cut off (but no one usually gets cut off in the WWE Hall of Fame speech) when a stagehand tried to calm them down.
It was a great setup to provide one more "D-VON! GET THE TABLES!" moment where the stagehand was powerbombed through a table.
#3 The amount of respect paid to Owen Hart, including Mark Henry's plea to his widow
Two men who were inducted into the 2018 class of the WWE Hall of Fame, had close ties to the late great Owen Hart. Both Jeff Jarrett and Mark Henry gave emotional speeches when talking about how Hart helped both of their careers tremendously.
Jarrett started to get choked up when he recalled the great times being in a tag team with Owen.
One moment, in particular, was a rib, Hart wanted to play on newcomers Edge and Christian involving a clown nose.
This prompted 'E&C' to come out and return the favor by putting a clown nose on him.
Henry's recollections of Hart weren't as lighthearted as he mentioned how much his family helped him learn the ropes early in his career.
He then asked for the camera to zoom in very close to his face as he made a tearful plea to Owen's widow Martha, to let the WWE induct him into the Hall of Fame.
#2 The Tables Ladders and Chairs reunion on stage
Before Bubba Ray and D-Von put a poor stagehand through a table, they invited Edge and Christian back to the stage, along with Matt and Jeff Hardy in an emotional thank you for creating history with their Tables Ladders and Chairs matches.
Bubba Ray stated that those TLC matches were a catalyst in helping the Dudley Boyz getting into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Bubba Ray believed it was the first time since the last TLC match at WrestleMania X7 in 2001 that they were all in the same room at the same time. It was an amazing and fitting moment to see all six men on stage together at the Hall of Fame.
I even said on my podcast that my wish was for all four men, the Hardy's and 'E&C' be the ones to induct Bubba Ray and D-Von just because of the importance of the TLC matches, but doing it this way was just as good.
It'll only be a matter of time before Christian is a member of the Hall of Fame. Same goes for the Hardy's once their wrestling career is over.
#1 Jarrius "JJ" Robertson shows the WWE Universe his infectious personality
If you tuned into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday evening and didn't know who Jarrius "JJ" Robertson was beforehand, you definitely knew who he was after his induction speech.
JJ was this year's Warrior Award recipient and is an advocate for organ donation. The 16-year old has endured two liver transplants that saved his life.
His energy, charisma, and sense of humor were off the charts. So much so, I campaigned to make JJ the new SmackDown Live General Manager when Daniel Bryan steps down!
JJ thanked Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Zack Ryder for befriending him during the tough times of his life; while throwing jokes at The Miz for being JJ's least favorite wrestler and John Cena for not having a match at WrestleMania.
It is safe to say JJ was the highlight of the night and completely lit up the room at the Smoothie King Center.
